Skin Resurfacing Q & A

What is skin resurfacing?

If you’re troubled by rough, uneven skin, scars, or signs of aging, such as discoloration, fine lines, and wrinkles, you may benefit from laser skin resurfacing treatments. At New Life Medical & Aesthetics, Dr. Naik and his team use the state-of-the-art Icon® laser system from CynoSure® to deliver customized skin resurfacing procedures to enhance the appearance of your skin.*

As you age, your body’s production of cells slows, and eventually, you can’t keep up with your skin’s needs, and signs of aging and sun damage become visible. Laser skin resurfacing can reduce signs of aging and other imperfections to give you a beautiful, youthful complexion.

How does laser skin resurfacing work?

Laser skin resurfacing enhances your skin in two ways. First, the laser triggers an intense exfoliation on the surface of your skin. All your old, dry, dead skin cells peel away to reveal fresh, flawless skin underneath.

At the same time, the laser also heats the deeper layers of your skin, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin cells, which plump and strengthen your skin from within.

What should I expect during a laser skin resurfacing treatment?

During each treatment, your provider cleanses your skin, and you both put on protective glasses before they use a handheld device to direct the laser over your skin. You may notice a warming sensation during your treatment, and your skin may be pink for an hour or so afterward.

Most patients have a series of skin resurfacing treatments every 4-6 weeks. Your provider gives you specific advice on how many treatments you’ll need to achieve your desired results.

How should I take care of my skin after a laser skin resurfacing treatment?

Laser treatments can increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight, so you should make sure to wear a broad-factor sunscreen, even if you’re not planning on spending much time outside. You may also experience some peeling after your treatment. You can use a gentle facial cleanser and a good moisturizer to keep your skin clean and fresh while your skin peels and generates new cells.

Every surgery or procedure poses a potential risk to your health, life, and well-being. Dr. Naik does everything he can to reduce the risks associated with your procedure. He also explains all the benefits and risk of your treatment and will answer your questions thoroughly to help you make the best decision about medical and surgical treatments for your health and wellness.
